The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) announced on Friday that a tanker suffered minor damage after an attack by an 'unknown projectile' off the coast of Oman, and also reported receiving a report of an incident between a commercial ship and military forces east of Duqm in central Oman.
The authority said in a statement that it received a report of a tanker, 19 nautical miles east of the Omani city of Khasab, being attacked by an unknown projectile, causing 'minor damage to its structure'.
It added that all crew members are safe and the tanker continued sailing to its next destination.
In a later statement, the authority said it received a report of an incident between a commercial ship and military forces, about 100 nautical miles east of Duqm in central Oman.
According to the authority, 'reports indicate that the tanker was subject to an interaction within ongoing military activity in the area,' without clarifying the nature of the incident.
It stated that 'the authorities are aware of the incident, and investigations are ongoing' to uncover its circumstances.
Earlier on Friday, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that its naval forces targeted radar sites in Oman, including an American air traffic control radar, according to Iran's Student News Agency (ISNA).
The agency quoted an IRGC statement saying its forces targeted a naval surveillance radar in the Sakhr Salamah area and an American air traffic control radar in the Ghanem area of Oman, and the Guard claimed to have destroyed both.
On Thursday, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it had completed a new wave of strikes on Iran.
The United States has been launching strikes on several areas in Iran for days, while Tehran responds by targeting what it says are American targets in the region.
On June 18 last, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding that included a ceasefire, and began negotiations mediated by Pakistan and Qatar to end the war that the United States and Israel launched against Iran on February 28 last.
However, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on July 8 the end of the ceasefire against the backdrop of renewed escalation, after Iran, a day earlier, attacked three ships while crossing the Strait of Hormuz, claiming they did not adhere to the sailing route it had set. Washington responded by launching attacks on sites inside Iran.
Washington supports the passage of commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz on a route different from the one set by Iran, which Tehran rejects, stressing that it targets any ship that does not coordinate with it before crossing the strategic strait for global energy supplies.
