The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Saturday that it had diverted 5 commercial ships and disabled one vessel since the reimposition of the blockade on Iranian ports on July 14.
CENTCOM said in a post on platform X that "as of July 18, US Central Command has diverted 5 commercial ships and disabled one vessel."
It added that US forces continue to strictly enforce the naval blockade imposed on Iran.
Iran suspends its obligations under the memorandum of understanding
This comes as Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said earlier on Saturday that the United States "has violated all its obligations under the Islamabad memorandum of understanding and completely suspended its implementation."
Gharibabadi added in remarks carried by Iran's Mehr news agency: "We have also stopped implementing our obligations and are not currently implementing them, as we are busy defending the country."
It is noted that the interim agreement reached last month to end the war collapsed on July 7, when Tehran targeted ships in the Strait of Hormuz, while the US responded by carrying out airstrikes on Iran.
Since then, Tehran has announced the closure of the strait, while Washington has reimposed its blockade on Iranian ports.
