The Joint Forces Command of the Coalition has begun implementing protective measures for its commercial vessels transiting the Bab Al-Mandab Strait and warned of a firm response to any Houthi threats against shipping. Coalition spokesperson Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki stated that the measures comply with customary international humanitarian law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). Al-Maliki dismissed Houthi allegations of a blockade on Yemeni ports and airports as false and aimed at escalating tensions with the Yemeni government and neighboring states. He noted that over 300 commercial vessels carrying food, fuel, construction materials and other goods entered the northern Yemeni ports of Hodeidah, Al Salif, and Ras Isa in the first half of 2026. Al-Maliki also blamed the Houthis for closing Sanaa International Airport, destroying the Yemenia Airways fleet, and rejecting initiatives to resume flights. "The Joint Forces Command of the Coalition undertakes and executes all firm and resolute operational measures to protect our commercial vessels transiting through Bab Al-Mandab Strait," Al-Maliki said.

"All Houthi threats against transiting vessels will be dealt with swiftly and firmly, as such threats are a blatant violation of international law and constitute acts of maritime piracy."

The Houthis have consistently denied accusations of piracy and blockade, framing their actions as part of a broader conflict with the coalition. The Bab Al-Mandab Strait is a vital chokepoint for oil and container traffic, and any disruption could impact global supply chains. The coalition's explicit warning signals a potential escalation if Houthi threats persist.
