Viral video of 'shooting from Iraq towards Kuwait'... Here's the truth
(CNN) -- A video clip spread on social media allegedly showing the moment of shooting from Iraqi territory towards the Kuwaiti border.
The video garnered tens of thousands of views and interactions on multiple platforms, including X, accompanied by a misleading description saying: 'Shooting on the Kuwaiti border from the direction of Basra, the Kuwaiti army is on alert, and Iran is managing the scene. Will the Basra-Kuwait war break out?'

CNN Arabic's fact-check revealed that the video is at least 5 years old and is not related to the recent escalation linked to the repercussions of the Iranian-American war in the region.
Reverse search showed that the video was first published on October 27, 2021, during a tribal gathering in the area of Al-Miqdadiya district, a city located in Diyala province, eastern Iraq (90 kilometers northeast of the capital Baghdad).

At that time, a version was available on a YouTube channel named 'Stories of Ibn Basra,' which commented on the clip: 'The itch doesn't cool down in my blood. Now the Bani Al-Tamimi tribes in Al-Rashad subdistrict, Al-Miqdadiya district, 2021.'
Looking back at news archives, we found that the village of Al-Rashad in Al-Miqdadiya district, Iraq, was attacked on October 26, 2021, by ISIS, resulting in casualties among the village's residents.
Later, the Iraqi army announced large-scale sweeping operations in the Hamrin Mountains in Diyala province to track down ISIS elements.
The recent circulation of the video coincided with a new round of mutual strikes between the United States and Iran.
It is noted that the video had previously been circulated with misleading narratives, one of which claimed that the scenes depicted were from protests by residents of the city of Umm Qasr in southern Iraq, objecting to rumors about transferring its affiliation to Kuwait, claims that are false.
