Giant Forces Seize Weapons Shipment Destined for Houthis in Bab el-Mandeb
Yemen's Giant Forces announced on Tuesday the seizure of a boat in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait carrying specialized materials and equipment used in weapons manufacturing, which were destined for the Houthis in the Hodeidah governorate.
According to a statement issued Tuesday evening, naval patrols of the Giant Forces stationed in the Bab el-Mandeb sector intercepted the boat after intelligence monitoring and tracking, and arrested its crew, which it described as belonging to smuggling networks linked to the Houthis.
The forces explained that the competent authorities have begun examining and securing the shipment's contents, in preparation for announcing details of the seized materials and equipment after completing investigations and legal procedures, amid indications that the shipment includes components used in military manufacturing processes.
This announcement comes at a time when warnings are escalating about continued attempts to smuggle dual-use materials and components used in manufacturing drones, missiles, and attack boats, through complex maritime routes that exploit the vastness of Yemeni coastline and multiple smuggling outlets.
The Giant Forces confirmed that the operation is part of a series of ongoing security measures to secure the coasts, combat smuggling, and cut off maritime supply lines, which they describe as one of the most prominent sources of Houthi support from Iran.
Observers believe that the continued seizure of similar shipments reflects an escalation in intelligence and naval efforts to tighten the noose on smuggling networks, stressing that the battle to secure maritime passages is not limited to protecting international navigation, but extends to preventing the arrival of materials that could enhance the Houthis' military capabilities, amid ongoing security tensions in the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb.
