(CNN) -- Social media accounts circulated an image attributed to underwear made of gold, with posters claiming it was found in the home of a member of the Iraqi parliament, amid a security raid campaign.

The image garnered more than 3 million views on X alone, accompanied by a description saying: 'An anti-corruption raid in Iraq shocks officials... Authorities, during a search of the home of Iraqi lawmaker Hind al-Abbasi, uncovered a huge amount of money: $57 million in cash, 27 kilograms of gold, and even underwear made of gold.'

CNN's Arabic fact-checking revealed that the image was generated by generative AI and is not related to the recent raid campaign in Iraq.

Using reverse image search, we found the golden underwear image in a post on X dated January 7, 2026.

Although the Iraqi Integrity Commission announced the seizure of money and other belongings from the defendants targeted in the recent arrest campaign, investigative authorities have not confirmed the confiscation of golden underwear.

Reports stated that al-Abbasi is among those detained. She is considered one of the young female figures in the Iraqi parliament and a member of the Azm Alliance, a Sunni political coalition led by Muthana al-Samarrai, who was also arrested by Iraqi authorities.

The Iraqi News Agency reported on Sunday the arrest of 47 defendants, including lawmakers and senior officials, on charges of corruption and embezzlement of public funds.
