Iran escalated its tone toward the United States, warning of a military response to any violation of Washington's commitments during the ongoing negotiations, according to the acting Defense Minister Majid bin Reza. This comes coinciding with the burial ceremony of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, and the continuation of disputes over the Strait of Hormuz and frozen Iranian assets.
Iran escalated its warnings to the United States in the past hours, amid the ongoing negotiation track between the two countries, as acting Iranian Defense Minister Majid bin Reza announced that any US violation of the commitments of the negotiation framework would necessitate a military response.
Bin Reza said in statements to Iranian television: 'If we see any violation of commitments during the negotiations, we will respond on the battlefield,' affirming that 'Iran is capable of conducting negotiations and engaging in confrontation at the same time.'
In the same context, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued similar warnings, cautioning 'the enemies against making any miscalculation,' and affirming that it 'will respond more decisively and crushingly than ever before.'
These statements come in the context of a complex diplomatic track; as Tehran and Washington signed a memorandum of understanding in mid-June stipulating an immediate ceasefire on all fronts including Lebanon, opening the Strait of Hormuz, and beginning to unfreeze Iranian assets.
On June 21 and 22, negotiations were held in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, with mediation by Qatar and Pakistan, during which the two parties agreed to establish a center to ensure the ceasefire in Lebanon, and a communication line for safe navigation in the Gulf.
Despite the holding of indirect technical negotiations in Doha on Tuesday and Wednesday to discuss the details of the memorandum of understanding, they did not lead to decisive results, although the Qatari and Pakistani mediators described them as positive.
Informed sources reveal that disputes remain over the two files of the Strait of Hormuz and frozen Iranian assets abroad; as Tehran insists on managing this strategic sea passage in coordination with Oman while imposing what it described as 'service fees,' which Washington categorically rejects.
