(CNN)-- Iran's Revolutionary Guard said it targeted US military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain in response to the latest wave of US strikes, according to a statement broadcast by Iranian state television.

The Revolutionary Guard explained that its naval and air forces carried out a joint attack using drones and missiles, targeting US infrastructure and facilities, including the Camp Arifjan and Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait, and the Sheikh Isa Air Base and the Juffair district in Bahrain.

The Juffair district houses the US Naval Support Activity, the main US Navy base in the Gulf, which hosts the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet.

The Revolutionary Guard added that these strikes came in response to US attacks that targeted Iran's southern coastal provinces, as well as two bridges in the east of the country, according to Iranian state television.

The Revolutionary Guard had earlier announced that the US targeted a railway bridge in the Aq Qala area northeast of Tehran, according to Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency.

Videos broadcast by Iranian media, whose locations were geolocated by CNN, showed damage to a railway bridge near Aq Qala. CNN has contacted US Central Command (CENTCOM) for comment.

Sirens warning of an imminent threat sounded in both Bahrain and Kuwait on Thursday, according to authorities.

The Kuwaiti army announced that its air defenses were currently engaging 'missile threats and hostile drones,' warning that explosions might be heard.

Bahrain's Ministry of Interior also announced that sirens were sounding and urged citizens to 'remain calm and move to the nearest safe place.'

The Revolutionary Guard warned that it would expand its response to include other US bases in the region if the United States retaliated, according to the statement broadcast by Iranian state television.
