The Iraqi judiciary announced on Wednesday the implementation of a series of measures in corruption and financial fraud cases, resulting in the seizure of more than 13 billion Iraqi dinars and $400,000, alongside the recovery of over 1 billion dinars and the confiscation of 40 gold bars and gold jewelry in three separate cases.

The judiciary explained that the competent authorities managed to seize 13 billion Iraqi dinars and $400,000 in various locations in Salah al-Din province as part of the investigation procedures in one of the cases.

In a separate case, the judiciary announced the recovery of more than 1 billion Iraqi dinars in the context of pursuing a financial fraud case, as part of efforts to recover public funds and prosecute those involved.

The judiciary also revealed the seizure of 40 gold bars, each weighing one kilogram, in addition to gold jewelry, in the case linked to Adnan al-Jumaili, as part of ongoing judicial measures.

These measures come within the framework of the Iraqi authorities' campaign to combat corruption and enhance the pursuit of financial crimes and the recovery of related funds and assets.

Iraq seizes assets worth 69 billion dinars

An Iraqi court had announced on July 13 that it issued judicial decisions ordering the seizure of 9 commercial properties and three flour production plants in the city of Mosul, with a total value of approximately 69 billion Iraqi dinars, in the case of the suspended Deputy Oil Minister Adnan al-Jumaili and the parties involved with him in money laundering and financial corruption crimes.

The Nineveh Investigation Court specializing in integrity cases stated in a statement that the decisions also included seven modern transport trucks, each worth $200,000, in the same case.

The court added that the market value of the commercial properties located in the center of Mosul is about 45 billion dinars, while the value of the flour plants is estimated at 24 billion dinars, pointing out that the fugitive defendants registered these properties in the names of their workers to disguise and conceal their illegal source.

Recovery of 375 kilograms of gold

The Supreme Judicial Council of Iraq had announced the recovery of 375 kilograms of gold as part of the judicial investigations into the case of the accused, Iraqi Deputy Oil Minister Adnan al-Jumaili.

It stated that, in coordination with the Kurdistan Region and under the supervision of the head of the council, Judge Dr. Faiq Zaidan, 358 kilograms of gold were recovered.

It added that 17 kilograms were seized in another investigative case, bringing the total amount of gold held to 375 kilograms during the day, noting that the recovered gold quantities were handed over to the Director General of the Issuance and Treasury Department of the Central Bank and his assistant.

It pointed out that the Iraqi judiciary continues its investigation as part of efforts to complete the investigations into the case of the suspended Deputy Oil Minister, Adnan al-Jumaili, in order to recover the movable and immovable assets obtained from this crime and punish its perpetrators according to the law.

The Iraqi authorities had arrested dozens of senior officials in Iraq, including former and current deputies, deputy ministers, general directors, and prominent political figures, in the largest financial corruption case led by the federal deputy oil minister.
