Riyadh enlists Italy, Spain in condemning Houthi assault on southern Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia's top diplomat held separate calls with his Italian and Spanish counterparts on Tuesday to address a recent Houthi attack targeting the kingdom's south. The three ministers also emphasized the need to safeguard maritime security in the Arabian Gulf and Red Sea.
Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan spoke by phone with his Italian and Spanish counterparts to review recent regional events and condemn a Houthi terrorist attack that hit southern Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia has been leading a military coalition in Yemen since 2015 to restore the internationally recognized government.
In the Tuesday calls with Italian FM Antonio Tajani and Spanish FM José Manuel Albares, the officials emphasized the need to ensure safe and free navigation in the Arabian Gulf and Red Sea.
They further denounced any actions that endanger maritime security and the safety of international shipping.
The Houthi attack underscores ongoing regional tensions. The rebels have repeatedly targeted Saudi territory and Red Sea shipping lanes, drawing widespread international condemnation. The coordination with European allies reflects efforts to build a unified response. Continued instability in Yemen poses risks to global trade and maritime security.
