In a tragic incident, a Japanese woman was arrested for allegedly sewing the lips of another woman who lived with her in the same apartment, causing injuries that left her unable to eat or speak.

While police are still investigating the causes and circumstances of the incident, they have not disclosed the motives behind what happened, but the perpetrator may have resorted to that to stop her friend from talking and prevent her from constant annoyance.

According to a report published by the British newspaper 'The Independent' and reviewed by 'Al Arabiya Net', Japanese police arrested Masay Sakurai, 49, a part-time worker, last Monday in Koga city, Ibaraki Prefecture (northeast of Tokyo), over the alleged attack on her housemate, 42.

Investigations ongoing

Police said that Sakurai used a needle and thread to sew the woman's lips together, at around 1:30 p.m. on June 29 last. Police did not disclose whether Sakurai had confessed to the charges, but announced that they are investigating the motive and details of the assault, as well as the nature of the relationship between the two women.

According to 'Japan Today', the victim managed to flee the house at around 1:30 p.m. the following day while Sakurai was absent. The woman, who was wearing a white mask, ran to a nearby store and handed an employee a note that said 'Please help me', as she was unable to speak due to her injuries. The employee immediately notified the police.

The woman later told police that her fear of Sakurai prevented her from escaping earlier, saying: 'I was afraid of Sakurai, so I couldn't run away immediately.'

Japan's Kyodo News agency reported that the two women had been living together in Sakurai's house since around April 2025. Police noted that there were other people also living in the house, and they are being questioned as part of the investigation. Investigators are also looking into the possibility that some of these people were present during the incident.
