A ceremony was held in the Romanian port of Constanța on Friday for the official commissioning of the corvette 'Contra-Amiral Roman' into the Romanian Navy, after its construction at the Istanbul Shipyard Command under the supervision of the Turkish company ASFAT as the main contractor for the project.

The ship joined the Romanian Navy fleet under a bilateral government agreement signed in December 2025, and was officially delivered in Istanbul on 20 June last year, before arriving in Romania.

The ceremony was attended by Turkish Deputy Minister of Defense Musa Heybet, Romanian Defense Minister Radu-Dinel Miruță, Romanian Chief of Staff General Gheorghiță Vlad, along with military and diplomatic officials from both countries.

The Turkish Deputy Minister of Defense confirmed that defense cooperation between Ankara and Bucharest will continue, including the provision of spare parts and modernization, maintenance, and repair work.

He stated that the new corvette would be a symbol of peace and security in the Black Sea and of the strong friendship between Turkey and Romania.

For his part, the Romanian Defense Minister described the ship's joining the fleet as a historic event.

He noted that the Romanian Navy is receiving its first new corvette in 35 years.

The Romanian Defense Minister expressed his happiness at acquiring this modern warship.
