The governor of Russia's St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov, announced on Saturday that air defense systems shot down 72 drones, thwarting a large-scale attack on an oil station in the city.

In a statement, Beglov confirmed no deaths or injuries from the attack targeting the oil station in the Kirovsky district.

The Russian governor added that the relevant authorities managed to address technical problems caused by the targeting (source not specified), noting that one drone fell near the historic Peterhof Palace without causing casualties or material damage.

In contrast, activists circulated video clips on social media showing a fire breaking out at the oil station after the attack.

Since February 24, 2022, Russia has been waging a military attack on its neighbor Ukraine, and demands for its end that Kyiv abandon joining Western military entities, which the latter considers 'unacceptable interference' in its internal affairs.
