Three people were killed and five others were injured on Monday in drone attacks targeting the Moscow region, as Ukraine intensifies its strikes inside Russian territory, particularly against energy and infrastructure facilities.

Deaths in Moscow

Moscow region governor Andrey Vorobyov said three people were killed and three others injured in the town of Pionersky in the Istra district after a drone fell, while two additional people were injured at another location in the region.

Vorobyov added that Russian air defenses shot down 81 drones over the Moscow region, in one of the largest waves of attacks targeting the outskirts of the Russian capital in recent times, according to AFP.

Targeting Deep Inside Russia

These strikes are part of an escalating Ukrainian campaign targeting deep inside Russia, as Kyiv says its attacks are in response to ongoing Russian strikes against Ukrainian cities and infrastructure that have lasted for more than four years.

In southern Russia, drones targeted the Stavropol region, sparking a fire in an industrial area in the city of Vyazniki in the Shpakovsky district.

Regional governor Vladimir Vladimirov said emergency and fire crews moved to the site, with no casualties reported so far, warning that the drone threat remains across the region.

He added that authorities have called on residents to exercise caution and follow official instructions, as the security alert remains in place.
