Syrian Interior Ministry arrests prominent ISIS leader Firas al-Daghir, dismantles cell behind recent Damascus bombings, assassinations, and funding activities.
The Syrian Interior Ministry announced the arrest of prominent ISIS leader Firas al-Daghir as part of a series of security operations that dismantled the cell responsible for the recent Damascus bombings, along with several leaders involved in assassinations and financing the organization's activities.
The ministry stated that specialized units, in cooperation with the General Intelligence Service, carried out simultaneous operations targeting several locations in Damascus and its countryside, including the areas of Al-Qutayfah, Sayyidah Zaynab, Qudsiya suburb, and Ush al-Warwar, and managed to arrest all members of the cell.
The ministry explained that investigations revealed Firas al-Daghir's progression through leadership positions within the organization, starting from his role in the so-called 'Al-Jaydur sector' and 'Western region', up to his appointment as 'Wali of Lebanon and Palestine', in addition to serving as a personal companion to the so-called 'Caliph of the organization'.

Assassinations and Funding
According to the ministry, the investigations indicated the involvement of cell members in carrying out assassinations and robberies targeting a number of jewelers in Daraa province, and using stolen gold to finance the organization's activities.
The detainees also confessed, according to the statement, to assassinating two Interior Ministry personnel, carrying out an assassination attempt inside a barbershop that resulted in the death of a civilian, as well as surveilling a man and his wife before killing them.
The Syrian Interior Ministry confirmed that all detainees have been referred to the competent judiciary, after organizing the legal records against them, to complete judicial procedures.
