Syrian television announced on Sunday that one person was killed following the explosion of an explosive device on the road linking Damascus and Suwayda.

The television quoted a source in the Interior Ministry as saying: 'A person was killed as a result of the explosion of an explosive device he was carrying in his car on the Damascus-Suwayda road, before he could plant it on the public road.'

A source in the Interior Ministry also told Syrian Al-Ikhbariya that an explosive device exploded inside a car on the Damascus-Suwayda road after it left the city of Suwayda, resulting in the death of its driver.

According to preliminary investigations, it turned out that the car driver was planning to plant the explosive device on the public road with the aim of undermining security and stability, creating chaos, and hindering the movement of residents to and from the city.

Internal security forces launched procedures to secure the site and collect necessary evidence, while investigations continue to reveal the circumstances of the incident and identify the connections of those involved and the parties behind this plot.
