Trump threatens Iran and Houthis with 'big military punishment' after targeting two Saudi oil tankers
US President Donald Trump threatened to direct a 'big military punishment' at Iran and the Houthi militia, in case of repeated attacks on ships in the Red Sea, following the group's announcement of targeting two Saudi oil tankers.
Trump wrote on the 'Truth Social' platform that the United States would hold Iran fully responsible for any new Houthi attacks, considering the group a direct proxy for Tehran, and affirming that the US response would include both Iran and the Houthis without exception.
Trump noted that the United States launched widespread attacks on Houthi positions about a year ago, in response to their targeting of commercial ships and threatening international maritime navigation in the Red Sea.
The US president expressed his disappointment at the Houthis' resumption of their attacks, pointing out that the group had acted 'responsibly and wisely' during the past period, before they resumed targeting Saudi tankers.
