The US military has confirmed it is conducting a third night of airstrikes against Iran, just hours before President Donald Trump's planned reinstatement of a naval blockade on Iranian waters.

The Strait of Hormuz is a strategic chokepoint for global energy supplies, and control over it has long been a point of contention between the US and Iran.

On Monday, missile strikes and ship attacks were reported as US and Iranian forces clashed over rival claims to the Strait of Hormuz.

Missiles hit the area around the Iranian city of Konarak, according to Iranian state media late on Monday. Earlier, it was reported that at least four explosions were heard east of Bandar Abbas, the port city on the strait, according to a reporter in the province. However, the initial report said the source of the explosions was not established.

Iran’s Tasnim news agency reported that several “violating” vessels in the strait had been targeted.

The dispute over the Strait of Hormuz—which carried 20% of global energy exports before the war—has put the fragile interim ceasefire between Washington and Tehran in jeopardy, prompting a series of attacks overnight Sunday.

More to come…

The series of attacks, including missile strikes near Konarak and targeting of vessels in the strait, indicate a pattern of escalating hostilities. The reinstatement of the naval blockade, as announced by Trump, would further restrict Iranian maritime activity. The interim ceasefire, already endangered, may not survive these provocations.
