The Houthi group announced Sunday evening the killing of one of its officers in clashes with forces of the internationally recognized Yemeni government.
The Yemeni news agency (Saba) in its version affiliated with the Houthis reported that a funeral was held in the capital Sanaa for "Second Lieutenant Muhammad Ghader al-Rayami."
It added that al-Rayami was killed "while performing his national duty," in reference to his death during clashes with government forces.
The agency did not provide details about the location and time of al-Rayami's killing, and there was no comment from government forces on the matter.
This comes amid a state of military alert witnessed by both sides for days, amid mutual talk of raising readiness and preparedness in anticipation of any potential field developments.
Despite some clashes from time to time, Yemen has witnessed since April 2022 a truce in a war that began more than 11 years ago between the legitimate government forces and elements of the Houthi group, which has controlled provinces and cities including the capital Sanaa (north) since September 21, 2014.
The Yemeni war broke out in 2014 when the Houthis took control of Sanaa, before the battles expanded in early 2015 with the intervention of the Saudi-led Arab coalition in support of the government, upon its request.
