16 Million Tuned in for France vs. Morocco Match
More than 16 million viewers on average watched the French national football team's 2-0 victory over Morocco in the World Cup on French channel M6, according to figures published by Médiamétrie on Friday. The figure, recorded for the quarterfinal match of the 2026 World Cup, is a record in France since the beginning of 2026. The match achieved a viewing share of 72.8%, meaning more than seven out of ten viewers were watching. It is expected that the French team's semifinal match on July 14 against Spain or Belgium will attract even more viewers, especially as it will be broadcast at a more convenient time starting at 9:00 PM local time. M6 is the only French channel broadcasting the 2026 World Cup for free, alongside the pay channel beIN Sports. Since the start of the World Cup on June 11, the channel has secured high viewing ratings, particularly for matches involving the French team. According to the same channel, about 12.2 million viewers on average (with a 76% share) watched France's 1-0 victory over Paraguay in the round of 16 on July 4, despite the match being scheduled at 11:00 PM, and that was considered a historic record for viewing figures at that time. This match, along with other broadcasts during the week from June 29 to July 5, allowed M6 to reach record levels of viewership during that period.
