2026 World Cup: German Football Association dismisses Nagelsmann after early exit
Berlin, July 3 (QNA) - The German Football Association (DFB) announced on Friday that it has terminated its contract with head coach Julian Nagelsmann following the team's early elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, currently being held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The DFB said in a statement on its official website that an agreement was reached to end the contract with the 38-year-old coach after talks with senior football officials in the country.
The statement explained that the coach agreed to terminate his contract, which was set to run until summer 2028, adding that the DFB will begin searching for a replacement and has initiated negotiations with Jürgen Klopp, who has in principle expressed his willingness to take the position.
Nagelsmann is the second coach in the history of the German national team to be dismissed, after his predecessor Hansi Flick, whose tenure ended in 2023.
The German team exited the 2026 World Cup in the round of 32, after losing to Paraguay on penalties 4-3, following a 1-1 draw after regulation and extra time.
