2026 World Cup: Morocco's Bouaddi second youngest to play quarterfinal
Moroccan midfielder Ayoud Bouaddi will become the second youngest player to feature in a FIFA World Cup quarterfinal, behind Brazilian legend Pelé, after being named in the starting lineup against France on Thursday in Boston.
Since the start of the World Cup, the Lille midfielder has impressed, and at 18 years and 280 days, Bouaddi becomes the second youngest player to appear in a quarterfinal.

He is still preceded by a major name: Pelé, who was just 17 years and 239 days old when he played his first World Cup quarterfinal, during Brazil's match against Wales in 1958. The Brazilian legend shone in that game, scoring the only goal (1-0) to become the youngest goalscorer in World Cup history, a record that still stands today. As with Bouaddi, Pelé emerged during his first World Cup, and even led Brazil to its first title, scoring six goals. With his appearance on Thursday, Bouaddi will also become the first African player ever to play in five World Cup matches before turning 20.
