Fenerbahçe have signed English striker Mason Greenwood from Marseille for €39 million on a four-year contract. The 24-year-old former England international said in a statement published on Fenerbahçe's social media accounts on Tuesday: 'I am very happy to be here and I hope we have a great season.' Greenwood finished his first season with Marseille top of the French league scoring chart with 21 goals, and also played in the Champions League last season, but he leaves the club after a less impressive second half of the season. After being fined €10 million by UEFA and placed under transfer and wage bill monitoring by the French football financial watchdog, Marseille was forced to sell players in the summer to restore balance to its strained finances, after finishing the 2025-2026 season in fifth place, which will deprive it of participation in the Champions League. Greenwood was once regarded as one of England's brightest talents after becoming an international at just 19 while playing for Manchester United, but he left United and joined Marseille in the summer of 2024 after two years of being accused of domestic violence and attempted rape before the charges were later dropped. As a result of the allegations, United suspended Greenwood, so he left England in August 2023 after a year and a half without playing, before relaunching his career by spending a season with Getafe in Spain and then moving to Marseille. On the pitch, the speedy winger had a successful first season with 22 goals in 36 games, significantly contributing to Marseille finishing second and qualifying for the Champions League. In terms of numbers, Greenwood continued to find the net last season scoring 26 goals in all competitions, including three in the Champions League. But the winger's output declined in the second half of the season, similar to the entire team.
