Algerian defender Aïssa Mandi announced his retirement from international football, ending a career that spanned more than a decade with the Fennecs, having been one of the team's key pillars in recent years.

Mandi revealed his decision through a video posted on his official Instagram account, in which he confirmed that representing the Algerian national team was a great honor for him, indicating that the time had come to close the curtain on his international career.

The 34-year-old Mandi said: 'Playing for the Algerian national team was exceptional and beautiful, giving me unforgettable feelings. But I feel that the right moment has come to say goodbye, after giving my all for my country.'

For its part, the Algerian Football Federation made sure to thank Mandi for his time representing the national team, celebrating his record as the 'player with the most appearances for the Fennecs'.

Mandi's retirement comes after his participation with the Algerian national team in the 2026 World Cup, and he is the second player from the team to end his international career after captain Riyad Mahrez.

The Algerian defender began his international career on March 5, 2014, when he played his first match for 'Les Verts' against Slovenia, a game that ended with Algeria winning 2-0.

During his career, Mandi played 122 international matches, scoring 8 goals, making him the player with the most appearances in the history of the Algerian national team.

Winning the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations title in Egypt remains Mandi's greatest achievement with the Fennecs, as he was one of the key pillars in coach Djamel Belmadi's squad that brought the continental trophy back to Algeria after a long absence.
