After three months, Queiroz leaves the Black Stars
Portuguese Carlos Queiroz, head coach of Ghana's national football team, announced Sunday his departure from coaching the Black Stars three months after taking over the task, following the team's campaign ending at the round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup. The 73-year-old coach, who participated in his fifth consecutive World Cup, took over his mission last April, succeeding Otto Addo, who parted ways with Ghana 72 days before the start of the finals. Queiroz wrote on Instagram: 'I leave this journey proud of what we have achieved, but I am also accompanied by that positive feeling of not being satisfied, which comes from those who always aspire for more. Reaching a higher level should never be the ultimate goal, but rather the beginning of greater ambitions.' Ghana beat Panama, drew with England, then lost to Croatia, finishing third in Group 12 to qualify as one of the best eight third-placed teams. Ghana lost 0-1 to Colombia in the first knockout round. The former coach of the Iranian, Portuguese, and Egyptian national teams had led Ghana in one friendly match before the World Cup.
