Al-Faisaly targets Ahmed Abdo, Nium striker
Asharq Al-Awsat learned from informed sources that Al-Faisaly club is targeting the signing of former Nium striker Ahmed Abdo during the current summer transfer window.
Senegal and Saudi Al-Ahli goalkeeper Edouard Mendy launched a scathing attack on his country's football federation after exiting the World Cup, demanding a comprehensive review of the reasons for the failure, and affirming that the national team had the potential that qualified it to go further.
Mendy wrote on his official account on the 'X' platform: 'We had the qualities that qualified us to go further than that, but we did not.'
He added that he did everything in his power to recover from injury and return in time to help the national team until the last moments, but that was not enough to achieve the desired goal.
The Al-Ahli goalkeeper affirmed that the time has come to face reality with courage, pointing out that major tournaments require a deep and honest review, not just formal reviews, in order to identify the reasons for success and failure and work to correct them.
Mendy stressed that painful facts are what make real progress, adding: 'If we want to reach the highest ranks, we must accept asking the right questions, making the right decisions, and raising our standards and ambitions.'
He concluded his message by affirming that Senegal deserves a national team and a federation capable of turning failures into lessons, and lessons into victories, stressing that the responsibility lies with everyone to live up to this challenge.
The 'Lions of Teranga' had bid farewell to the tournament early from the round of 32 after losing to the Belgian national team 2-3.
