Al-Ettifaq: $4 Million Keeps Hendry for Two Seasons
Al-Ettifaq Club officially announced on Saturday the renewal of Scottish defender Jack Hendry's contract for an additional two seasons. The eastern club did not disclose further details about the deal, but sources from Al-Riyadiya clarified that the contract value amounted to $4 million. According to the same sources, Hendry received several offers from Saudi clubs recently, but Al-Ettifaq's desire to keep him on its Asian list, along with the player's conviction to stay, helped finalize the renewal and continue his journey with "Faris Al-Dahna" for another period. The eastern club broadcast a video of the Scottish defender on its official account on the "X" platform, through which he sent a message to Al-Ettifaq fans, saying: "Hello Al-Ettifaq fans, this is Jack Hendry. I hope you are as excited for the upcoming season as I am, and I would like to thank you for the great support you have given me over the past seasons, and I greatly appreciate it." Hendry added: "I am pleased to share with you the news of my new contract signing, and I am excited to spend two additional seasons with this club, and I hope they will be successful seasons for all of us." The renewal of the 31-year-old Scottish defender's contract confirms what Al-Riyadiya reported last May 23 under the title: "Before the World Cup... Al-Ettifaq intensifies efforts to finalize Hendry's file," and it detailed in the news quoting special sources that Al-Ettifaq's management is moving to renew Scottish defender Jack Hendry's contract for the next two seasons, adding that the club's football committee recommended renewing the Scottish international defender's contract before joining his country's camp ahead of participation in the 2026 World Cup. Al-Ettifaq had signed Hendry in the summer of 2023 from Belgian Club Brugge on a three-season contract, based on the recommendation of Englishman Steven Gerrard, the former team coach. During his tenure with Al-Ettifaq, Hendry played 83 matches in various competitions, scoring one goal. On the international level, the Scottish defender was part of his country's squad that exited the first round of the ongoing 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, noting that he started as a key player against Haiti (1-0), Morocco (0-1), and Brazil (0-3), within the Group C competitions.
