French coach Hervé Renard officially announced on Saturday the end of his tenure as coach of the Tunisian national team, one week after the 'Carthage Eagles' were eliminated from the 2026 World Cup, thus ending a short but eventful experience.
According to French newspaper L'Équipe, Renard posted an emotional farewell message on his official Instagram account, expressing his deep gratitude to the Tunisian Football Federation for giving him the opportunity to lead the team in the world championship, saying: 'It is a great honor to wear the colors of Tunisia and to live this unforgettable experience.'
In his message, the French coach added: 'Before I leave, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Tunisian Football Federation for giving me the opportunity to participate in the 2026 World Cup,' before wishing his former team the best, saying: 'I wish the Tunisian national team all the best in the future. I am confident that it will continue to grow, make an entire nation happy, and write bright chapters in its history.'
Renard, who previously coached the national teams of Morocco and Saudi Arabia, also made sure to thank everyone who supported him during his time with the Tunisian team, saying: 'I thank everyone who supported me throughout this journey,' before concluding his message with an emotional phrase: 'My journey is coming to an end.'
Renard's announcement of his departure comes amid media reports about the possibility of his return to coaching in Algeria, with some sources pointing to preliminary negotiations between him and the Algerian Football Federation, as the 'Greens' are looking for a coach with international experience to lead the team in the upcoming phase.
