The Gulf qualifying tournament for the U18 Asian Basketball Championship will kick off next Saturday in Doha, Qatar, with the participation of five teams: Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman. According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the tournament comes after the organizing committee approved the match schedule following its postponement from its original date of July 17-22. The tournament holds great importance as the official gateway to the U18 Asian Championship finals, which will be hosted by India next August, and the five Gulf teams are competing for three direct spots to qualify for the continental finals. The competition will be played in a single round-robin format, with the top three teams securing tickets to the Asian tournament. Intense matches are expected, reflecting the development of Gulf basketball in youth categories. The tournament will open with a match between Kuwait and Oman, followed by a meeting between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. The importance of the qualifiers is not limited to reaching the Asian Cup; the continental finals are also a crucial stage in the race to qualify for the U19 Basketball World Cup. The top four teams in the Asian Championship will secure their places in the Youth World Cup, scheduled to be held in the Czech Republic from June 26 to July 4, 2027.
