The Jordanian Football Association's Board of Directors, chaired by Prince Ali bin Hussein, has decided to appoint Moroccan coach Badou Zaki as head coach of the senior national team on a one-year contract, to lead the Nashama in upcoming competitions, most notably the AFC Asian Cup finals scheduled in Saudi Arabia in early 2027.

In an official statement, the association announced that the decision came after the board approved the resignation of coach Jamal Salami and his technical staff during its meeting, while extending thanks and appreciation for their efforts during the past period.

The statement indicated that the new Nashama coach would be introduced and the assistant technical staff would be announced based on Zaki's recommendations, in a step aimed at giving the Moroccan coach the freedom to choose his assistants to achieve the desired goals.

Zaki, 63, has a distinguished career as both a player and a coach. As a player, he led the Moroccan national team to a historic achievement in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico by reaching the round of 16, and was named African Player of the Year that same year. He also had a remarkable stint with Spanish club RCD Mallorca.

On the coaching front, Zaki led the Atlas Lions to the final of the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations. He also coached several prominent Moroccan clubs, most notably Wydad Athletic Club, FUS Rabat, CODM Meknes, and Ittihad Tanger, in addition to his experience coaching the national teams of Sudan and Niger.

The appointment of Zaki represents a Jordanian bet on the experience and continental achievements of the Moroccan coach, in an attempt to lead the Nashama towards positive results in the upcoming Asian championship and to enhance the status of the Jordanian national team on the continental stage.
