Manchester City first-team player Phil Foden has extended his professional contract until 2030, according to the 10-time English Premier League champions announced on Wednesday. The new contract gives the England international a degree of stability after a turbulent period in his career, and also provides a morale boost to his new Italian manager, Enzo Maresca. Foden, 26, suffered a decline in form during a period where injuries affected his appearances, and also saw him excluded from England's squad for the last World Cup. His contract was set to expire at the end of next season, but his new deal, which includes an option for an additional year, has secured his long-term future. Foden said: 'Linking my future with Manchester City means everything to me. Playing for this club is all I ever wanted, and wearing this shirt is a great honor for me, and I am well aware that I have been lucky to be part of a historic period that has seen many titles won, but we always look forward to the future and strive to win more.' He added: 'I can only thank the club, the coaching staff, my teammates and the fans for their belief in me and their confidence that I give my all for City, and I hope to be able to repay that for years to come.' Foden has won six Premier League titles, one UEFA Champions League, two FA Cups, and five League Cups with City since being promoted from the club's academy to the first team. Foden is the most decorated player in Manchester City's history alongside Portuguese Bernardo Silva and John Stones, who both left at the end of last season. But a year ago, after struggling to regain the form he showed in previous seasons, Foden spoke openly about his off-field battles with mental health. Foden has scored 110 goals in 369 appearances for City, but started only seven of the team's last 26 matches under former Spanish manager Pep Guardiola, before Maresca, the former Chelsea manager, took charge in June. Foden said he looks forward to working with Maresca, who was part of Guardiola's coaching staff during the historic treble season of 2022-2023, saying: 'I am very excited. I have worked with Enzo before. When he was with us during the treble season, he was fantastic, and his attention to detail and small things that make a big difference, even through the current training with him, you can see how special he is as a coach.' He added: 'The way he likes to build from the back and rely heavily on possession suits my playing style perfectly.'
