Arab countries witnessed popular celebrations on Saturday evening as the Moroccan national team advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup after defeating Canada 3-0.

In Palestine, cheers erupted from fans in the Gaza Strip celebrating the victory of the Atlas Lions, waving the Moroccan flag, according to videos trending on social media platforms after the match.

The West Bank also witnessed similar popular celebrations for Morocco's advancement.

A gathering in the Syrian capital Damascus, which followed the match on a large screen, also saw notable celebrations for Morocco's victory over Canada and its qualification to the World Cup quarter-finals.

In Yemen, fireworks were seen launched into the sky over a gathering in the city of Aden celebrating the Atlas Lions' victory, according to the same sources.

Videos also circulated showing celebrations in cafes in the UAE and Saudi Arabia over Morocco's victory, with prominent presence of the Moroccan flag amid the festivities.

Earlier on Saturday evening, Moroccan cities including Rabat, Casablanca, and Tangier witnessed widespread celebrations following the Moroccan national team's qualification to the 2026 World Cup quarter-finals after their 3-0 victory over Canada.

Immediately after the final whistle, thousands of Moroccans took to the streets and public squares, chanting supportive slogans for the Atlas Lions, including "Dima (Always) Morocco," "Sir Sir," and "Hala Hala.. Hna Sboaa wa Rijala" (We are lions and men), amid a festive atmosphere across the country.

Morocco defeated Canada 3-0, setting up a quarter-final clash with the winner of the match between France and Paraguay, scheduled later on Saturday at 21:00 GMT.

Moroccans have great ambitions in this tournament, following the historic performance of their team in the 2022 Qatar World Cup, when they became the first Arab and African team to reach the World Cup semi-finals, eventually finishing fourth.

The United States, Canada, and Mexico host the 23rd edition of the FIFA World Cup from June 11 to July 19, with the participation of 48 teams.
