Chelsea announces signing of Morgan Rogers

Chelsea officially announced on Tuesday the signing of English midfielder Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa in a record deal worth £117 million.

Rogers' contract runs until June 2032, with an option to extend for an additional year.

Rogers joined Aston Villa in 2024 from Middlesbrough, and made his debut for the England national team in November of the same year. He also assisted Anthony Gordon's goal in England's 2-1 loss to Argentina in the 2026 World Cup semi-final.

In January 2025, Rogers scored three goals in Aston Villa's 4-2 win over Celtic in the Champions League, and played a key role in the team reaching the quarter-finals.

The player continued his excellent form during the 2025-2026 season, which is the best of his career so far, after scoring 10 goals in the English Premier League.

In the Europa League final against Freiburg, Rogers set up the first goal and scored the third in a 3-0 victory, helping Aston Villa win its first major European title since 1982.

Chelsea, who finished last season in 10th place, will begin their Premier League campaign against Fulham on August 24.
