Sinner Awaits Another Clash with Djokovic in Wimbledon Semifinals
Italian Jannik Sinner, the defending Wimbledon champion, expressed his excitement for a new showdown against Serbia's Novak Djokovic, who continues his pursuit of his 25th Grand Slam title.
Djokovic, 39 years old and a seven-time Wimbledon champion, reached the semifinals of the tournament for the 15th time in his career after defeating Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime in a marathon five-set match.
The Serbian star aims to claim sole possession of the record for most Grand Slam titles, having been tied with Margaret Court at 24 titles since 2023.
The upcoming match between Sinner and Djokovic will be their 12th meeting overall, and the third at Wimbledon.
Sinner told Italian media: 'I know I can beat Djokovic if I perform well, but losing to him is also a possibility. There is a lot of pressure, but I handle it calmly.'
He added: 'I am happy to be on court, giving my best, and facing him again. What impresses me most is Djokovic's training approach and his attention to himself, his body, and every detail.'
He continued: 'He has great motivation, and we are happy he is here. He is giving his all to achieve his 25th Grand Slam title.'
Sinner had won five consecutive matches before suffering a surprise loss to Djokovic in the semifinals of the Australian Open in January, and later lost to Juan Manuel Cerundolo in a five-set match at the French Open, Roland Garros.
Djokovic, for his part, has reached the semifinals of a Grand Slam for the eighth time since winning the US Open in 2023, but is still chasing his 25th major title.
Djokovic said: 'At this stage of my career, being able to compete with players 15 years younger than me and to outplay them by narrow margins is something that pleases me, but I aspire for more.'
He added: 'I try to prove to myself and to others that I can still compete with and beat the best players in the world at the majors. I did that in Australia, and I have done it here at Wimbledon too.'
He concluded: 'I hope to achieve more success here in London.'
