Romero criticizes Gary Neville after his comments about the Argentine defense

Cristian Romero, defender of the Argentine national team, sharply criticized Gary Neville, former England player and television analyst, after Argentina's victory over England in the semifinals of the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Neville had criticized the Argentine defense before the match, according to the newspaper "Foot Mercato," describing the defensive duo Romero and Lisandro Martínez as the best and the worst in the world.

Romero said in statements to "DSports" channel: "All I hope is that I won't be that stupid when I retire, I don't want to criticize any player, we give our best for the national team."

For his part, Lisandro Martínez said: "We are used to hearing such statements, but we respond on the pitch, that's all there is to it."

The Argentine national team, the reigning 2022 World Cup champion, will face the Spanish national team, the 2024 Euro champion, in the World Cup final this Sunday.
