The two teams' arrival in the final was no surprise, as they entered the tournament ranked first and second in the FIFA World Ranking, before confirming their status on the field. Both teams also maintained undefeated records, though each took a different path to the final match, whether technically, economically, or in terms of fan support.

Data from Football Benchmark reveals a significant gap in market value between the two teams, with Spain's squad valued at around €1.47 billion, compared to €818 million for Argentina, meaning the Spanish team is worth about 80% more than the defending champion.

A large part of this difference is due to young star Lamine Yamal, currently the highest-valued player in the world with an estimated value of €292.2 million. The Spanish team is also characterized by a low average age of its players, with a mean age of 26.7 years, compared to 29.1 years for Argentina, which is among the most experienced teams in the tournament.

Spanish superiority is also evident in the ideal lineup based on players' market values, which includes seven players from Spain and exceeds a total value of €1 billion, led by Lamine Yamal, along with Pedri (€139 million) and Pau Cubarsí (€110 million). In contrast, Enzo Fernández tops the list of Argentine players with a value of €104 million, followed by Julián Álvarez at €88 million.

Despite the economic gap, Argentina clearly surpasses in audience and media impact, with the total Instagram followers of its players amounting to about 667 million, compared to only 140 million for Spain's players.

The bulk of this advantage is due to Lionel Messi, whose followers exceed 512 million, keeping him as the most influential figure in world football even as he approaches the end of his international career.

The Argentine fan presence also reflected on its official accounts during the tournament. The team's official account gained about 2.4 million followers between June 11 and July 14, a growth rate of 16.2%, while the Spanish team added about half a million followers, a growth rate of 6.7%.

Argentine dominance also continued in terms of the fastest-growing stars on social media. The five fastest-growing players on the Argentine team added 11.8 million new followers during the tournament, more than double the 5.6 million added by the top five Spanish players.

Messi topped the list by adding six million new followers, followed by Julián Álvarez, Emiliano Martínez, Leandro Paredes, and Lisandro Martínez, all of whom surpassed one million followers during the tournament.

On the physical side, fatigue levels may play a decisive role in the final, given the intense pressure from consecutive matches.

Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez leads the list of most utilized players among the finalists, having played 795 full minutes without missing a single minute in his team's campaign.

He is followed by Alexis Mac Allister with 730 minutes, while the list includes five players from the Spanish team among the most used: Marc Cucurella, Unai Simón, Pau Cubarsí, plus Aymeric Laporte and Rodri, all of whom exceeded 700 minutes.

This physical strain also worries European clubs, as the 2026-2027 season starts less than a month later, meaning many stars from both teams will return to their clubs without adequate preparation.

But all these numbers will lose their value with the opening whistle. Spain enters the final with the highest market-value squad and one of the strongest defenses in the tournament, along with exceptional talent represented by Lamine Yamal, the future of world football.

Argentina, on the other hand, enters the match as world champions, boasts the strongest attack in the tournament, and relies on the experience of Lionel Messi, who continues to defy time and exceed all expectations.

Numbers may outline the contours of the matchup, but they will not decide its outcome. As always, the real decision remains on the pitch.
