Karl returns to training for first time since pre-World Cup injury
Lennart Karl, player of German football club Bayern Munich, returned to training on Wednesday, a month after the injury he sustained before the start of the World Cup.
Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk reached the semifinals of Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam tennis tournament, after defeating Italy's Jasmine Paolini, runner-up of the 2024 edition, in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 on Wednesday, setting up a clash with Czech Linda Noskova.
The Ukrainian star has shone remarkably this season.
The world No. 13 managed to seal the match in just 69 minutes on Centre Court, reaching the semifinals of a Grand Slam for the second consecutive time, after making the last four at the French Open last month.
Kostyuk will face Czech Noskova, ranked 12th, in the semifinals, who defeated Belgium's Elise Mertens 6-3, 7-5 to book a spot in her first Grand Slam final.
Kostyuk continues her strong run, having lost only one of her last 22 matches.
The 24-year-old said: "This is the first time I've played on this amazing court; it's a dream come true."
She added: "I was here nine years ago as a fan watching Roger Federer, and coming back to this place as a player is incredible. I walked past the wall of champions and stopped for a moment to take it all in."
Kostyuk continues her impressive performances, having suffered just one defeat in her last 22 matches, which came against Russia's Mirra Andreeva, who later won the French Open title.
Kostyuk is expected to enter the top 10 of the world rankings for the first time in her career, after being ranked 28th in April.
In contrast, Paolini failed to replicate the level she showed in the fourth round against Philippines' Alexandra Eala, exiting the tournament at the quarterfinal stage, the first time she has lost at this stage in a Grand Slam.
Kostyuk, ranked 13th, sealed the match in just 69 minutes.
The Italian was playing her first Grand Slam quarterfinal since reaching the Wimbledon final in 2024, when she also reached the French Open final.
In the second match, Noskova continued her strong run at the All England Club, reaching the semifinals of a Grand Slam for the first time after defeating Belgium's Mertens in straight sets.
Noskova entered the match as the highest-ranked player remaining in the bottom half of the draw, following the early exits of Poland's Iga Swiatek and Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina.

Despite the resistance shown by Mertens (27) in her first Grand Slam quarterfinal appearance since 2020, she could not match the attacking power of her Czech opponent.
Noskova, 21, is enjoying a fine run on grass, having won her second WTA title in Berlin before continuing her brilliance by reaching the Wimbledon semifinals.
On the last-four clash, Noskova said after the win: "It will be a tough match, never easy. Marta is a great player."
The winner of the Kostyuk-Noskova match will face the winner of the clash between American Coco Gauff, a two-time Grand Slam champion, and Czech Karolina Muchova, ranked 10th, in the final scheduled for Saturday.
