English club Aston Villa today announced the official signing of Swiss Johan Manzambi from German side Freiburg during the ongoing summer transfer window.

According to press reports, the deal cost Aston Villa 70 million euros, making Manzambi the most expensive player sold by Freiburg in its history.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder delivered outstanding performances with Freiburg last season, scoring 7 goals and providing 9 assists in 47 matches across all competitions. Manzambi also caught the eye at the 2026 World Cup, scoring 3 goals and providing 2 assists in 4 matches for Switzerland, helping them reach the quarter-finals before being eliminated by Argentina.

Aston Villa said in an official statement: "We are pleased to announce the signing of Johan Manzambi. The Swiss international, who recently participated in the 2026 World Cup, joins the club on a permanent transfer from Freiburg."

Manzambi will replace the departure of Youri Tielemans to Manchester United, and his signing also comes amid the long-term knee injury suffered by Amadou Onana.
