Brussels, July 24 (QNA) - The Belgian Football Association announced today the appointment of Dutch coach Mark van Bommel as the new head coach of the senior national team, succeeding Frenchman Rudi Garcia, who left his position four days ago.

The association explained in a statement published on its official website that Van Bommel, 49, has signed a contract to lead the team until 2028.

The Belgian national team had reached, under Garcia's leadership, the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, before losing to Spain, who won the title last Sunday against Argentina.
