Reports have suggested that Croatian star Luka Modrić is reconsidering his decision to retire, following the return of Slaven Bilić to coach his country's national team.

The former Real Madrid star was seriously considering ending his professional career, but the appointment of a coach he fully trusts at the helm of the Croatian national team's coaching staff has prompted him to pause and reassess his decision to hang up his boots.

Bilić and Modrić previously worked together during Bilić's first stint as Croatia coach. They share a strong friendship; they used to dine together whenever Bilić visited Madrid, given the great understanding between them.

Modrić was aware of the negotiations Bilić conducted in recent days to succeed Zlatko Dalić. During some of those conversations, Modrić hinted that his continued presence on the pitch would remain an option if Bilić took over the job, which indeed materialized with his appointment as the new national team coach.

Thus, the Croatia captain now has the option to continue his international career under his former coach, according to Spanish newspaper 'AS.'

In a related context, rumors have recently circulated about the possibility of Modrić returning to Real Madrid, but he has not received any call from the Royal Club regarding the matter.

In contrast, Ruben Amorim, the new head coach of Milan, contacted Modrić and expressed his desire to bring him into his project with the former European champion. Modrić has not commented on the offer, although Milan's season did not end as expected. The midfielder and his family feel very comfortable with their lives in the city of Milan.
