Argentine coach Mauricio Pochettino hinted that he is about to determine his position on continuing to lead the United States men's national soccer team, noting that the decision could be made next Monday. Pochettino led the team to the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, excelling greatly before exiting the tournament with a humiliating 1-4 loss to Belgium. However, despite this defeat, the local federation wants him to stay. His contract, which pays him $6 million annually, is set to expire at the end of the World Cup, with a clause allowing an extension, which the US federation is seeking to activate. The English newspaper Daily Mail quoted Pochettino as telling Spanish radio station Cadena COPE on Saturday: 'We are evaluating and studying the matter. The US federation made me an offer to continue, and we will see what happens. We will make a decision next week.' Earlier this week, JT Batson, the CEO and Secretary General of the US Soccer Federation, was optimistic about the possibility of reaching an agreement with Pochettino to lead the team in the upcoming competitions. Pochettino received a warm welcome when he was appointed coach of the national team two years ago, after previously managing Tottenham, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea.
