The appeal filed by Senegal to reclaim the Africa Cup of Nations football title, which they won after a chaotic final against host nation Morocco last January, is scheduled to be heard before the world's highest sports court on October 8.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) said on Friday that the hearing will be held behind closed doors at its headquarters in Lausanne, without setting a date for the ruling.

CAS judges typically take several months to announce their decisions.

Preparations for the appeal hearing have been ongoing throughout the 2026 World Cup, during which the Moroccan team reached the quarter-finals, while Senegal exited the tournament in the round of 32 against Belgium.

Senegal defeated Morocco 1-0 after extra time in an exceptional final held in Rabat.

Senegal players left the pitch and delayed the resumption of play for 15 minutes, after the referee awarded a penalty to Morocco in stoppage time, before the goalkeeper was able to save it.

Morocco was awarded the title several weeks later, when the appeals judges of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) deemed Senegal to have withdrawn from the match due to leaving the pitch.

This decision appeared to disregard the laws of football, which state that the referee's decisions on the field are final.
