Spanish full-back Marc Cucurella, the new Real Madrid star, confirmed that his national team deserved the win against France and qualification for the 2026 World Cup final.

The Spanish national team dominated completely and defeated France (2-0) on Tuesday evening at the Dallas stadium in the World Cup semifinal.

Cucurella said in statements after the France match: "We are proud of what we have achieved. We expected the flow of the match, and we knew that the danger came from their counterattacks, so we pressed them and defended strongly against them, so we deserved the win."

He added in an interview broadcast by "beIN Sports": "We controlled the match completely, especially after we scored the first goal from the penalty kick. That goal gave us confidence to control the match as we wanted."

Asked about Spain's historic generation that won the 2010 World Cup, the new Real Madrid star said: "It was an exceptional generation. We grew up watching that generation, and we want to repeat the achievement. We have the opportunity to write history like them."

He added: "It is never easy to reach a World Cup final, but now we expect a stronger opponent in the final."

The Spanish national team awaits in the World Cup final next Sunday the winner of the England vs. Argentina match scheduled for Wednesday evening.

Regarding his preferred opponent in the final, Cucurella said: "It doesn't matter who the opponent is; the better one will win the match. I have many English friends because I played there for many years (with Chelsea), so it will be an exceptional match, and in Argentina there are also some friends like Messi."
