Deal Done: Leonardo on the Verge of Leaving Al-Hilal
Brazilian striker Marcos Leonardo has moved closer to leaving Saudi club Al-Hilal during the current summer transfer window, after his club reached an agreement with Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam regarding the player's transfer to the Eredivisie.
This step comes after a difficult period for the Brazilian forward, who has not received the expected playing opportunities since arriving at Al-Hilal, making his exclusion from the technical staff's plans one of the most prominent issues in recent times.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that Al-Hilal and Ajax have reached a preliminary agreement for the transfer of Marcos Leonardo to the Dutch club, confirming that the deal is in its final stages.
Romano explained that the agreement between the two clubs was reached for €17.5 million, with an oral agreement also in place between Ajax and the player regarding personal terms, pending final procedures.
Romano added that lawyers from both sides have begun reviewing the documents related to the deal, while Marcos Leonardo has received the green light to undergo a medical examination before officially completing his transfer to Ajax.
Leonardo had joined Al-Hilal amid high expectations of his brilliance, but competition within the team and the difficulty of securing a starting spot limited his appearances in the recent period.
The player also suffered from marginalization for long periods, especially after Italian Simone Inzaghi took over as head coach, as he was not among the primary options in his plans, prompting him to seek a new opportunity outside the Roshn Saudi League.
