Press reports have revealed moves within the Algerian Football Federation that could pave the way for ending the tenure of Swiss coach Vladimir Petkovic, despite the official announcement of his continuation at the helm of the technical staff of the 'Desert Warriors'.

According to French journalist Romain Molina, federation officials are studying a mechanism that would allow them to end the relationship with Petkovic without bearing the huge penalty clause amount, by making changes to his technical staff and gradually isolating him.

Molina indicated, via his account on the 'X' platform, on Friday, that this step aims to push the coach towards leaving, describing the management of the file as having turned into a crisis within the corridors of the Algerian Federation. This comes days after the federation announced its renewal of confidence in Petkovic, and keeping him until December 2028, based on the report of the technical committee which considered that he succeeded in achieving the agreed-upon goals. The committee praised what the Swiss coach achieved, after leading the team to the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations, reaching the second round of the World Cup, in addition to the positive results he achieved in recent friendly matches. Petkovic is bound by a contract that grants him a monthly salary of 160,000 euros, while the penalty clause amounts to 5 million euros, which makes the decision to dismiss him costly for the Algerian Federation.
