Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has been ruled out of England's third-place match against France at the 2026 World Cup due to injury, concluding his tournament participation without a single minute on the pitch.

The Three Lions released a brief statement explaining the reason for Mainoo's exclusion from the squad: "Kobbie Mainoo is ruled out of today's squad for the match against France due to injury."

England manager Thomas Tuchel made seven changes to his lineup in pursuit of the bronze medal against France, following the dramatic defeat suffered by the Three Lions against Argentina last Wednesday.

A World Cup Without a Single Minute

The Manchester United midfielder will return to Old Trafford having not played a single minute at the World Cup, despite being included in England's 26-man squad, ahead of notable players such as Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton and Bournemouth's Alex Scott.

However, he remained on the bench without playing against Croatia, Ghana, Panama, DR Congo, Mexico, Norway, Argentina, and now must wait four years for another chance to make his World Cup debut.

Warnock Criticizes Tuchel Harshly

Legendary Premier League manager Neil Warnock strongly criticized Tuchel for overlooking the Manchester United star when England were desperately trying to hold onto their lead against Argentina.

He told talkSPORT: "Mainoo was the type you needed in the last 25 minutes because he's fit, he can keep the ball, he can run with it."

He added: "That's not said to the press, it's said to the player himself. You say, 'You're not training well enough, son, can you improve?'"

Manchester United Hopeful for His Fitness

Manchester United, who lost 1-0 to Wrexham in their opening pre-season friendly earlier today, hope that Mainoo has not suffered a serious injury.

Mainoo made 30 appearances for the Red Devils last season, scoring one goal and providing three assists, and earned the trust of Manchester United manager Michael Carrick after being consistently overlooked by his predecessor Ruben Amorim.

The Red Devils are eagerly looking forward to the fan-favorite player proving his fitness before the Premier League season kicks off against Hull City on August 22.
