The Egyptian national team qualified for the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup after defeating Australia 4-2 on penalties, following a 1-1 draw in regulation and extra time in the round of 32 match played on Friday.

Egypt took the lead in the first half through Imam Ashour in the 13th minute, before Australia equalized in the second half in the 55th minute through an own goal by Mohamed Hany. The match remained tied through regulation and extra time, leading to penalties where Egypt prevailed 4-2.

With this victory, Egypt continues its campaign, awaiting the winner of the Argentina vs. Cape Verde match, as it seeks to maintain its positive results in the current edition of the World Cup.
