Egypt national team delegation departs US coinciding with Morocco match
The Egyptian national team delegation will not remain in the United States to watch Morocco in the 2026 World Cup quarterfinals, after Ibrahim Hassan set the return date to Cairo.
The Pharaohs delegation is scheduled to leave the United States at a time that coincides exactly with the kickoff of the Atlas Lions' match against France.
Ibrahim Hassan, manager of the Egyptian national team, announced that the Pharaohs delegation will leave Atlanta at 4 PM US time, 11 PM Cairo time, following the dramatic round of 16 exit against Argentina with a 3-2 score.
The Egyptian team was leading 2-0 until the 79th minute, before the match turned upside down and the Argentine team scored three goals in 14 minutes, amid widespread refereeing controversy that sparked global reactions.
Ibrahim Hassan clarified, in statements via the official website of the Football Association, that the return trip to Cairo will take more than 12 consecutive hours.
The departure time means the delegation will be in the air at the moment the whistle blows for the start of the Morocco-France match in the quarterfinals, officially confirming that no official Egyptian delegation will attend to support the only remaining Arab team in the tournament.
The Football Association had announced the renewal of the contract of the twins Hossam and Ibrahim Hassan until 2030, in appreciation of what it described as a 'historic achievement' in the World Cup, despite the harsh exit that ended the Pharaohs' dream in an unforgettable way.
