Extra Time Writes New History for Norway and England in the World Cup
The fiery 2026 World Cup quarterfinal clash between Norway and England extended into extra time after a thrilling draw in regulation, sending the match into the World Cup history books for both teams.
This is only the second time in Norway's history that they have played extra time in the World Cup, with the first and only previous instance dating back to June 5, 1938, when Norway faced Italy in the first round and lost 2-1 after extra time.

In contrast, the English national team bolstered its historical record by playing extra time for the 11th time in its World Cup history. The Three Lions have a long legacy with extra time, starting in the 1954 edition against Belgium, repeating in the famous historic final on July 30, 1966, when they won the title against West Germany, matches in the 1970 edition, three extra-time encounters in the 1990 World Cup, up to the two matches in the 2018 edition against Colombia and Croatia, renewing the nerve-wracking battle in the current 2026 North American edition.
