British Arthur Fery reached the semi-finals of Wimbledon, continuing his journey in the third of the four Grand Slams, to face German Alexander Zverev, world number three and Roland Garros champion, after they both secured their places among the top four on Wednesday, by defeating Italian Flavio Cobolli (10th) 6-4, 7-6, 6-0 and American Taylor Fritz (7th) 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 respectively. Fery, ranked 114th, achieved an unprecedented feat by becoming the first wildcard entrant to reach the men's semi-finals at the All England Club since Croatian Goran Ivanišević, who won the title in 2001. Fery is now just two wins away from matching Ivanišević's achievement and becoming the first British player to win the men's singles title at Wimbledon since Andy Murray in 2016. Fery is the third lowest-ranked player to reach the Wimbledon semi-finals since 1985, after Czech Vladimír Volčík (ranked 237th in 2000) and Ivanišević (ranked 125th in 2001). Meanwhile, Zverev booked his place in the semi-finals for the first time at the All England Club, after easily beating Fritz in three sets, ending a streak of seven consecutive losses to his opponent. The German had failed to get past the fourth round in his previous nine appearances at the English tournament. Zverev became the third German player in the Open Era to reach the semi-finals of all four Grand Slams, after Boris Becker and Michael Stich, with Stich being the last German to win the Wimbledon men's title in 1991. Zverev, 29, is the heavy favorite against Fery in the semi-finals on Friday, awaiting the winner of the match between Italian defending champion and world number one Jannik Sinner or Serbian Novak Djokovic.
